An issue of Atlasque is a curated sequence. The pieces are placed in an order, the way rooms are placed in a house, and reading them in sequence is a different experience from reading any one of them alone. You can still enter anywhere — but the order is the argument.
Why issues
Publishing in issues changes what gets written. It creates a deadline that is shared rather than individual, it lets a theme accumulate across several pieces, and it gives a body of work an edge — a point where it is finished and can be kept.
It also changes what gets read. A reader who opens an issue is not deciding between one article and the rest of the internet. They are entering something with a beginning and an end.
What we publish
Longform reporting, cultural essays, travel writing, reviews, photo essays and recorded conversations. Contributors write from Algeria and from the diaspora, and the magazine is deliberately legible to readers who have never been.
Culturally rooted, internationally legible. Neither of those is worth much without the other.
